R&B - Jimmy's Old Town Tavern

Music has been a passion of mine since day one. One of my first memories is hearing Don McLean’s “American Pie” on the radio. My childhood consisted of a healthy diet of oldies stations and early 90’s alternative rock. Growing up I was like a sponge, soaking up everything from Motown and Elvis to Van Halen and Green Day. As I got older my musical tastes expanded, and I began including Classic Rock, Funk, and Hip Hop into my playlists.

Depending on the day, it’s always been a toss up for my favorite band. However, it always comes down to The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. To me, the songwriting of the Beatles and the instrumentation of Led Zeppelin represent two sides of the same coin; complete mastery of a music style they defined as their own. As for performers, and on-stage presence, no one tops Jimi Hendrix. He was the reason I wanted to be a musician and as soon as I found the distortion switch at age 10, I taught myself the Star Spangled Banner on my first guitar.

Today I find myself listening more to artists that mix different genres together. Groups like the Gorillaz, Cake, and the Flaming Lips have the ability to blend and produce great music in unconventional and sometimes surprising ways, and while most of my music library still remains in the “rock” category, I’m a firm believer that good music is universal and has no labels. What I love about our group is that we take all the best parts from our different musical backgrounds and try to combine them. By blending together our different influences I think we’re able to create something no one has heard before but hopefully everyone can relate to.
